We had a great labor day weekend at the Dutchman Campground. The sites are spaced out well. The sites have campfire rings with cooking grates. The camp host frequently patrolled the area, which was nice for when people parked vehicles in inconvenient spots or when we had a question about the local hiking/biking trails. We had no problem fitting our pick-up and 14 foot trailer bed into our site. It was super easy to jump on the atv trails nearby. The lake is close by. We didn't have a boat but fished from the shore and it was alright, it seemed like we were just out of reach from where the trout really were. The Mt. Meadow Store and Campground is nearby and is great for gas, beer, ice, etc. My only complaint was that there was only one restroom for each camping loop, so we had to walk a ways and often it was busy. All in all we would absolutely stay again!
LOVE THIS PLACE! Stay away people! I want it all for myself. Absolutely beautiful and quiet and fun... an amazing place to take your family. Great fishing and hiking, I recommend everyone visit
Amazing place - we were stuck for somewhere to stay in the Black Hills this August, our planned accommodation falling through at the last minute, and could not believe our luck stumbling upon this place. Very peaceful, set a mile from the road in the middle of pine trees and above a lake. Great for wildlife - we saw red squirrels, blue birds, deer, and at one point, a coyote. The sites were well spaced and private, half reservable, half first come first served. It's about 25 minutes from Hill City, and an hour from the main sites, but in our opinion, well worth the extra driving (and this was something we had been concerned about before the trip). It is away from what can become slightly relentless tourism around the Hill City/ Keystone area, and felt like a more authentic experience of the area. It was also more accessible than campgrounds like Ditch Creek and Castle Peak.
We arrived after dark and awoke to a beautiful campground. Very quiet. Nice hike to the lake. Saw a deer. Parked a 22' RV with no problems. I wish we had been able to stay for several days.
